Low white blood cells can be caused by leukemia but my understanding is that there would be other more obvious signs. The more common association between low white blood cells and cancer is because cancer treatment causes low white blood cells, but obviously that is not the cause here because you would k know.

A virus is the most likely cause, one that will resolve.

That is how I found out I had mono. I was taking a medication that required regular bloodwork and they found I'd had mono at some point.


fwiw over 90% of people have had it and test positive for EBV by adulthood.
