I don’t know the 11th that well. Maybe it would be like Chamberi or Salamanca (?) neither of those has many options for hotels.

You could look at Posada de Leon del Oro— it’s in La Latina which I am not sure I’d classify as low key but would be a nice neighborhood for a meal and a walk.

If you want to be right on the Plaza Mayor the Pestana Plaza Mayor is nice. If you are ok being a little further away the Palacio del Retiro is nice.

Depending on when you’ll be there and what your budget is these may be a little expensive but they aren’t crazy expensive, like the Mandarin Oriental.

PS I think Retiro park is actually a much nicer place to visit in Madrid than Plaza Mayor but it really depends on preferences where you want to be.

Thanks for these recommendations! We want to be somewhere that allows us to easily enjoy Madrid on foot for the brief time we’ll be there. We like neighborhood-y neighborhoods where we can find good, low-key restaurants—we really like the 11th in Paris, for example. We don’t need to be able to see all the sites; we just want to enjoy a nice day walking around, poking in stores, eating a couple of good meals.

Does that help narrow it down? Thanks again.
