But you need to figure out where he is on the otaku/weeaboo spectrum.

Agree that facial hair is also important. Confederate general beard = red flag to me. Clean-shaven and funny? I'd consider proceeding. There are things on that Tokyo Tiger website that I'd wear.

I love that shirt, but I agree it's a yellow flag. Could indicate a guy who doesn't take himself too seriously and has a sense of humor. OR if could indicate a guy who is obsessed with everyone THINKING he doesn't take himself too serious and has a sense of humor, but actually is ridiculously focused on creating an image of a cool guy who doesn't care about conventions.
So I'd have to see it in context. If he has a handlebar mustache or regularly wears bow ties when other people are wearing regular ties, or wears shorts when other people are wearing long pants, or talks excessively about a particular niche form of alcohol (craft beer, aged bourbon, etc) --- I'd say red flag.
