Two data points don't make a pattern, but here it is. DC didn't do Glimpse and got full tuition ride scholarship at WashU but was rejected by Vanderbilt.

When SESP freshman Lily Katz saw that there was an option to submit a video on her Northwestern application, she texted her friends asking what she should make the video about. Joking, they suggested, “You should do it about being short.”

Although it was a joke, Katz decided that was exactly what she would do.

Katz positioned her camera to show her doorframe for scale and made a video about how, although she is 4-foot-8, she has a big personality and about what she has learned about navigating the world as a short person.

For the 2024-25 college application cycle, NU implemented a new optional video supplemental. The videos, submitted through Glimpse video, can range from 60 to 90 seconds, are filmed within the platform with no opportunity to edit and are meant to add a “candid voice” to the application.

I can see how this would be an amazing opportunity for a small percentage of kids.

For the rest (my DC included) it sounds incredibly stressful. Are others willing to give examples of what their kids did on their video?

I get the day-in-the-life approach, but that doesn’t fit my kid at all. Does anyone just talk casually about something random that interests them? I’m really having a hard time imagining how these videos come off well ….

I’m glad they didn’t have glimpse videos when I was applying to college. No one could tell from my paper application that I had a frizzy perm.

this is stupid and no, my kid won't be memorizing a fake script and doing this.

he'll either just authentically speak into his iphone camera for a minute or he'll skip it and focus on writing good essays.

Yes, private college counselors will help you with brainstorm ideas and write a script for you to memorize.

My kid got into UChicago. Made an "influencer style" video about "day in the life" doing their skilled hobby and going out dinner.

It was a cute video for my mid, gross and tacky to be used for college admissions, but that's what the school wants

I was thinking it was just for internationals, but now second guessing. Want to dubmit feeling like you did everything you could but it’s still risky.

Mine did one for 2 schools, including Vanderbilt and did not get into either.

Mine did similar Why major for Vanderbilt (ED). Deferred.
Did a different one for RD schools.
