I was wondering what the reasoning or benefit is behind doubling up on these math classes at the same time.

Is it mainly for acceleration into higher-level math in high school (like getting to Calculus earlier), or are there other advantages? Would love to hear insights from fellow moms who’ve had experience with this path!.

Likely those are doing catchup. The standard is to do algebra 1 at RSM year before can take Alg in school and then continue being year ahead at RSM- so while taking Alg 1 in school, which at that point is a repeat and so should be easy, take Geometry to learn it new and then many sign up for summer geometry, which also will be easy and start Alg 2 in 8th. This summer plan won’t be needed for those doing Alg 1 in 6th.

I would recommend math competition classes over the grade level classes for any child that is taking Algebra 1 in 7th grade. If your child is ahead enough to handle A1 in 7th grade, they should be able to handle the math competition classes. The classes introduce algebra and geometry concepts, as well as number theory and a whole host of advanced topics that appear in math competitions. The classes move quickly and explore math in a more creative manner. DS has been in math competition classes since 4th grade. A1H in 7th grade was easy and he is finding geometry to be pretty easy as well. Geometry he has noticed that the concepts in school are taught more formally then his exposure through the MCP but there hasn't been anything that is really new.

The MCP material is more interesting and moves far more quickly than the regular RSM class, it has been interesting and engaging.

You appear to be ignorant how evaluation in US public education works. Here we SOL test students from elementary grades. 6th grade is already too late. Curie appears to be inline with US SOL testing norms, just a tad difficult, definitely not for your kid! suck it up!

Very much interested in Curie Learning methodology. But how tough is it? Can an average student survive their weed out curriculum?
