They are. Our club discourages them for the HS aged swimmers. Navy Elite is one of the only ones that gets the ok because it’s more in-water training than a typical camp and more in line with what older/higher level swimmers would do in practice.

I always thought the college swim camps were for younger kids wanting more stroke instruction… and fun. That’s what they were when I was a college swimmer.

Same at our club.
Despite that, my DS did attend a couple. He had fun at both, but acknowledged that the training wasn’t at all comparable to club training and he felt like he’d missed a week of real practice.
I love UVA swimming, but the program isn’t really involved with the camps. It was a great experience, but for high performance swimmers, make sure you’re attending for the right reasons (fun with your sport vs. intense yardage or technique instruction).

FWIW, the coaches at our club strongly discourage attending the UVA swim camps (or any swim camps really) for the elite/top level kids. They say it interrupts a crucial time in the training cycle and isn’t a replacement for training.

Looking for other programs for a summer swim camps. I was recommended the Longhorns Swim camp (more intense than the UVA one, which seems "fun") and the Navy Elite Program.

For summer 2026 already?

Yes, sold out by 8:40am if not earlier.
