Some of the press ons/glue actually look good! I actually used some for my wedding so my nails could all be the same shape and length and you couldn't tell they were fake. They even have them now with designs already on them. Definitely hold the line on the acrylic/gel nails. Not healthy for the nails.

I had said no to the acrylic/gel and my kid got these glue on ones instead. They look the same to me. I guess they are also probably toxic.
My older teen does not do any of the acrylic/gel stuff but does really appreciate good quality regular nail polish. One of the brands is Holo Taco -- it's expensive but it seems to last forever because it's really high quality and it looks awesome. I am not a nail person but hers really do look good. I get it for her christmas stocking and it seems to last all year (or more, depending on how often she uses a particular color).

I let my DD get them and they ruined her regular nails and were painful coming off...which I told her going in. Lesson learned the hard way.

On another note, this is a trend past it's time...I don't love the look.

Acrylic nails require lots of time and money to maintain. And if you don't continue to maintain, they look awful. This is not for a 14 year old.

It’s not about the expense. It’s about what it says about a person. Those kind of nails on a young teen screams trash, lax parenting, and possibly fast crowd. No thanks.

We don’t allow any sort of fake nails or even nail polish. Trashy as hell!

They are so trashy. I allow it on occasion, but my daughters know how awful I think they look.

This too will pass. I remember my 13 yo DS was going to DIE if he didn't get a pierced ear. D.I.E.

well he didn't die and now he's 21 and still no pierced ear.

The gel polish looks nice but it is really hard to remove without ruining your nails making it necessary to get more or have nasty looking nails until they grow out. The whole thing is just an expensive money pit.
Honestly, if she's not willing to get a nice manicure and take care of her nails, she's being unserious.

News flash, teen girls do not give a rat’s @ss what an older woman on a middle aged mom site thinks is attractive 🙄 Do you not remember being a teenage girl?!

The press-ons come in different lengths. You don’t have to have very long ones. You can also trim/file them shorter.

Don't use this argument. She will save up the money if she really wants them. Stay with the No for health reasons.

She’s 14, honestly this is not the hill to die on if she wants to save up her money to get her nails done every once in a while.

+1 We allow it for special occasions, and she pays. I personally really don't like them, but she is her own person. Within reason, of course.

I don’t see the harm in getting them as a treat before a special occasion such as a dance or a vacation. She’s just trying to fit in and it’s quite a normal request for a 14 yr old girl. There are good press ones that don’t cause damage. And really who cares about a little nail bed damage a couple times a year.

This is such a non issue in the world of issues that you could have with a teen. Be thankful and loosen up.

Just get the press on nails. They are cheaper, don't have to go through the process of acrylic, and give a similar effect, if she wants them.

+1 My dd uses Olive & June glue press-ons for homecoming and prom. Because she’s not wearing them frequently, there’s no damage. It’s okay for special occasions.
