Kevin Donahue is NOT brilliant. There is NOTHING about that guy that is brilliant. He is average at best.

What makes you say that? He has navigated the city through a lot of issues. In terms of Council I think Kenyan McDuffie who oversees business and has those relationships would also be qualified and that is it for the Council.

If it makes you feel any better about TOPA, my newish apt building was up for sale in 2020 and we formed a tenants association to buy the building and hired one of the couple lawyers in the city who works on these sort of TOPA deals to get his take. This short of it was we had to come up with like $10 million in cash to make a purchase, and because not all tenants were interested in purchasing (this was a high turn over building with lots of young professionals), the interested tenants would have to pony up like $200k each. And because we were a market rate building with mostly professionals, we weren’t eligible for any special assistance. The lawyer said that really the only time such purchases are successful is when the building is mostly low income tenants because they can qualify for monetary assistance. I’ll admit I’m not super familiar with the legislation, but if it exempted newer buildings from TOPA it may mean there’s no practical difference, only that real estate deals close faster.

Yeah I agree with this assessment. I knew of her nepo baby status so didn’t expect much, but she seems extremely capable. She’s in the clear moderate camp and I think if the green machine/pro business lobby were to get behind anyone it’d be her.

I thought Pinto was a joke when she was first elected but she has impressed me time and time again. She seems steady, warm and unafraid to push herself into uncomfortable fights and forge a moderate path, which is desperately needed.

Yeah I think JLG is super popular in Ward 4 but I’m not sure how she’d do citywide.

"Would like to see" and "should be mayor" are two different things, but don't you think a city that had white mayors for the past 50 years but was 40% black might generate similar comments among the electorate? I happen to agree with the OP on that sentiment, but I would certainly not vote for someone based on that. Politically, I tend to line up more with the black politicians in DC than the white ones, FWIW.
