I had an extra credit card in my name that our nanny used exclusively. I paid it off each month. Never had any issues.

Over 16 years (due to a special needs kid), I’ve always just let the nanny use my credit card. It has a very high limit and not a single nanny in all these years has taken advantage of that.

Why not just do a green light card for your child?

Get her a credit card, or open a bank account with her on it.

I get why people suggest low limits, but I have been given a card with a $30k limit more than once. $1k was never enough for long. I was taking cars for tires/repairs and put gymnastics class and speech therapy on the card.

More for other readers: do not ask your nanny to loan you money for groceries, then get reimbursed later. I honestly won’t even work for people like this anymore.

I didn’t want to deal with receipt tracking and reimbursements so I opened up a bank account with our au pair as an authorized user. I leave a reasonable amount in there for incidentals or kid groceries, gas etc. It takes trust and communication but it’s working well so far.
