Maybe people are not chasing prestige but looking for a good fit, and maybe we have money saved up and are happy to send our kids to excellent schools where they would thrive?

It sounds like you sent your kid to a state flagship and are regretting that choice and taking it out on the other parents on this board.

I can't afford these places so I'll dedicate my life to stalking dcum every time one of theses schools is even tangentially mentioned and I'll be sure to thread bully over and over and over to be sure you know that there's a less expensive 30,000+++ flagship alternative. I assume you haven't heard about or considered them?

Whether people view BU as prestigious or not, the school provides excellent education and experiences—even when compared to one of the top state schools. Some aspects are actually better at BU.

I have children attending both schools.

OP-No one is forcing you to send those kids to any of the schools. Send them to your state flagship. Send them to any Ivy or WASP. Send them to a little-known LAC. It’s your kid and your money. We online bystanders/observers will wish your kid well wherever their journey takes them.

Not Ivy or bust at all. Just saying that private school parents who can’t get their kids into Ivies tell themselves that these schools are great just because they’re private and expensive — but they’re not great. At all. Many state flagships are better, certainly the ones around here.

I think those are schools kids/families select because they really like them. They like the campus, the general vibe, the size, the weather, the setting. Sometimes they also like specific programs.

If the family can afford it (in some of these cases a star student can get real merit that would bring the cost of these down below a state flagship anyway) and the kid feels it's a good fit, why not?

I don't think anyone goes to these schools thinking it's "practically an Ivy!" They know what they are getting and actually want it.

WUSTL is an excellent school and significantly above most flagships, although it is a bit dumpy and lacks the panache of the ivy+. Same is true of Emory.

NYU is a world class school and you're showing your ass by even mentioning it here.

Surprised Tufts wasn't on the list though.
