By switching to this "suspend" system it takes out some of that and should make books move from person to person faster. Doesn't make complete sense to me, but I think I get it.


I don’t *believe* the ideas it was giving 2-3 days to decide. Here’s why. Multiple times I would wake up to see I had a couple of notifications. One at like 3am “your hold is now available” and then at 6:30am, “you missed your hold, you will be placed next in line.” Arrgggh. So I’d have to wait a few more weeks just because I didn’t pick it up at 3am.

+1 I was so confused this week when I tried to select the deliver later option.


I just suspend it and immediately after hit unsuspend. It moves you to first on the wait list.

Thanks for this tip! I didn’t understand the change and got 5 holds all at once that I can’t finish in time.

DP here. I have 4 library cards. I’m in MoCo. Several libraries in MD, as well as, DC public library offer cards to those in neighboring jurisdictions. I believe this is true for VA, as well. Between my 4 cards, I can have up to 40 books on hold. But what’s even better is that if MCPL doesn’t offer a book, one of the other libraries is likely to.


Do you have physical cards? My online memberships expire after some time.

Each library is different. Fairfax County is 10, I believe, and the DOD library is 15. I have both.

As someone who was constantly pushing off audio book deliveries (but never more than 9 months), the update is a great improvement.

Do you have multiple library cards? All of them are different. Most of mine allow 10 holds.
