I know these are the one we are talking about and are most familiar with, but the real bogeyman is diphtheria. It can turn fulminant in a matter of hours. The pesudomembrane at the back of the throat suffocates you. If you survive and get better, there's still myocarditis and the other fairly common sequelae to deal with.
Graveyards have multiple family members that died within days of each other, and not just children. Your immunity from childhood vaccination wanes in adulthood if not boosted.

I can now get this if some dumb granola mom from FL now doesn't want to vax her kid?
It's less likely to be fatal if you've been fully immunized at some point, but the immunity wanes over time.
It's worth checking if you have gotten the Td or Tdap booster recently. The "d" is for diphtheria.
Although childhood DTaP coverage exceeds 80%, acquired immunity wanes over time, requiring a booster to preserve immunity. Although vaccination is not guaranteed to prevent diphtheria, vaccinated persons who later develop diphtheria have been reported as having milder and fewer fatal infections.

This wasn't really an issue with essentially universal vaccination. This is still a live illness, though -- it's still active in other parts of the world, such as sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Indonesia. It's not like smallpox, which we eradicated.
