The nurse at my kids private far exceeds what we experienced in public. My child does not have diabetes, but had significant medical issues previously, and the staff was exceptional.

Independent Schools tend to have actual RN/BSN/MSN nurses on site full time. FCPS has health aids with little to no training and an RN who oversees multiple schools and is never onsite. I worked in both. My experience was that we received a lot of training each time we had a student with T1D in independent schools and nothing but a notification of the condition in public schools.

My type one went to Flint Hill. They did a great job.

Agree. I am a teacher in a NOVA parochial school and we have had several students with Type 1 diabetes. Current medical technology has made the management significantly easier than it was a decade ago. We do have a full time nurse.

Privates usually can handle this just fine. Pick schools that have a full-time nurse on site.

Disclose the issue and discuss with the school before signing any contract. Ideally, get the school to document what they will/won't do in writing (to avoid misunderstandings).
