Thanks for all your tips and advice! I really appreciate it. we definitely did sincere thank you and I think we'll do a baked good and the end of the season. We also offered to return the favor whenever possible! Spoke with the mom, all seems to work well so far!

Hopefully one day you return the favor.

+1

Maybe they’re paying it forward. We were the lucky beneficiary when ours weren’t quite old enough to drive (they were “young” for their class) and fellow students would provide a ride. We encouraged our kids to do the same now for underclassmen in that situation. It’s also one of the reasons we pay for one tank of gas per month for ours (so they’ll freely offer to drive others).

Being on-time and thanking the driver every time will go a long way. And, if it’s a teen driver, definitely offer gas money or the occasional stop for a treat.

You are kind, OP, for wanting to acknowledge their gesture in a meaningful way.

Agree with the sincere thank you, offer to get some other types of rides. Also can’t go wrong with a nice, token gift, chocolates, homemade goodies etc

thank them, make sure your kid thanks them, is on time, is polite. end of season thank you note and small gift card, especially if you know something they like (Starbucks, target, Costco, etc...)

I do a Starbucks gift card with a short note thanking them for your help and letting them know they ca. always have you return the favor on the days you can drive. $25 is fine- it’s more the note and the gratitude that matter.

Offer to take her to practice or games and/or home from practices. I’ve found most people don’t mind dropping a teammate off on occasion, but I always offer to reciprocate.

When I was in high school, my mom gave a teammate gas money to drive me to and from practice when I was an underclassman. It was a little bit out of their way and the money was definitely appreciated.

Also, be sure the family knows that if they have other plans after a particular game, it's fine. You will figure something else out.

At the end of the season, you can put together a nice basket of some snacks, home baked goods, and a thank you card with a gas gift card inside . I helped out a friend in a similar situation last year and that’s what she did for me. While I was certainly not expecting it, I felt very appreciated .
