I like both of the coats that OP posted.

But.... when someone starts their post as saying they have been wearing 15 year old too-tight outerwear, and are in jeans and tees..... I think these two coats will not only be wasted on this person, but potentially look frump. Both of these coats you're ideally skinny, stylish (and tall is a plus). If you're a middle aged unstylish mom wearing 7 year old Jcrew Factory, these two coats are going to look dowdy on you, and no one is going to recognize that they are stylish expensive coats.

Adding..

OP if you don't know the brand, Eileen Fisher usually does a double faced wool /cashmere blend unlined open coat each winter, at about the same price point as the Ami coat. And usually you can get them on sale at the end of the season.

Not the quality of the coat you're considering, but very nice.

It's been difficult for me to get used to unlined coats. Especially that linings these days will probably be synthetic instead of sIlk. For those of us who wear our coats 10+ year, linings have to be mended most likely, and a capable seamstress is also difficult to find.

The Ami coat is 100% virgin wool... at what seems to me a very reasonable price for the fabric and styling. It's going to have a luxurious feel.

Coats are one of those things where I think they look great on someone like kate Middleton who is often photographed outside, but in my day to day life I’m just usually in climate control. Or hot. I just don’t wear a wool dress coat that much or for that long.

If it’s cold and I’m going to be outside for a long time, I usually want something synthetic. They’re just more practical. Or a thick wool sweater layered under canvas.

this is my favorite winter coat:

NP - You ladies are so stylish. I am a plain Jane, with basic tastes and I love this - a good everyday coat that is a little stylish enough not to draw attention to my otherwise lack of style. And as great price at that!

But what color as an everyday coat - the camel or black? Everything I own is some version of black, navy, maroon, gray, and denim :/

I bought a Reiss coat last winter and I love it. I can throw it on over a boring outfit and feel instantly stylish. I bought it in classic black. Camel is great, but I feel like it’s difficult to use as an every day coat. You notice little smudges more.

I think the scarf is going to drive you nuts, tbh. Fun for sometimes but not an everyday coat.

Cinzia Rocca is a good brand imo for wool coats. Classic, well made, expensive enough to have good materials but no crazy brand markup.

Personally I always get charcoal or camel because they show way less lint that black. J Crew coats hold up for a long time

I’d get the Isabel Marant. It’s more stylish, versatile and timeless, and can be dressed up or down.

The Ami coat goes better with how you describe that you dress. I like both, though (but if inclined to get the Toteme coat, I’d get the Quince dupe instead since I could see getting tired of it and/or it looking dated).

Okay. Can you share a coat you love?
