+1. And the SC has pretty much said it's perfectly legal for the government to snatch people off the street if you look Hispanic, speak Spanish, and appear to be working class.

When OP says “currently,” that should change your assumption.
It did change my assumptions. Before the feds went bananas I wouldn’t have thought that race was as obvious a factor and so wouldn’t have been as surprised to see a parent of a black or brown teen leaving it out.

I was wondering that. My white teens ride daily to school, as do most of their classmates who are too far to walk. But at least a few, definitely not all, of their black and brown friends' parents have been driving more recently or asking about carpooling.
