A bit misleading at Churchill. UMD screwed Churchill hard this year. My kid with a 4.7 GPA and 13 APs could not get in even on wait list or delayed program. It skewed it a bit. A lot of those kids who wanted UMD to go instate had to go out of state. And with those GPAs they got into good schools. My kid I said if I am paying full freight pick the best school possible OOS.

And it went other way. My kid has two friends with almost a 4.8 WGPA who at at MoCo community college as parents did not want to pay OOS tuition and did not get into UMD. They plan to transfer over. My kids friends got into a bunch of great schools and still at MoCo. I am like she got into Pitt, Penn, American, NYU, and going to MoCo? Yep parents wont pay. So that also makes list look weird.

Include Blair for UMD. Went from almost 50% acceptance rate to 30%. My child with similar stats (submitted ACT scores) was also denied.

I'm sorry, that's insanity.

Arlington Magazine usually releases a similar chart for APS college results in August. I did not see anything published this August. Do we know if it is in the works or they just decided not to do it this year?

My kid got into MIT and did not attend because we could not afford it. They went to Case Western.

ok, i asked gemini to rewrite this so I can understand:

This year's college list for Churchill might look a little strange because the University of Maryland was incredibly difficult for our students to get into.

My kid, with a 4.7 GPA and 13 APs, was rejected. Because many of these high-achieving students couldn't get into their top in-state choice, they ended up at excellent out-of-state schools instead.

At the same time, a lot of top students who didn't get into UMD are now at Montgomery College because their parents don't want to pay out-of-state tuition. I know of students with nearly a 4.8 GPA—one of whom had offers from Pitt and NYU—who are at MC with plans to transfer to UMD later. So the data is skewed, with top students either going to prestigious out-of-state schools or starting at community college.

Agree. not impressive at all.

You are better off going private or moving somewhere more remote.

Exactly. The Tiger Mom culture is the main thing to credit for any accomplishments at Churchill/Wootton. I witnessed it just yesterday when a perfect stranger came up to me and asked me if I was somebody's mom, and I said no, but my daughter is in the same class. She then started talking about college applications. I don't even know the person and she asked me where my daughter was applying. They are so hyper focused on the issue they don't even realize how inappropriate they are.

Yeah that was me.. sorry it if made you uncomfortable.

I agree with the PP. What early 2000s interface is Bethesda Mag using? I tried to look at the results, but didn't get past the universities starting with the letter B.

Blair did very well at CalTech and MIT.

Looks like they had 20% acceptance rates at both schools.
