I do BELIEVE that. I do not know for certain, but given that kids in my area regularly turn down magnet slots because of the commute, I would HYPOTHESIZE that any change would be an improvement, particularly since more slots are being proposed across the county.

I am not like you and the other posters, who proclaim the future will be dismal under the revised HS programs with such great certainty.

More than 100 MCPS students were nominated as semifinalists in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship program. They will compete nationally for scholarships announced in the spring.

The MCPS semifinalists come from 12 high schools: Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Montgomery Blair, Winston Churchill, Northwest, Poolesville, Richard Montgomery, Sherwood, Springbrook, Wheaton, Walt Whitman and Thomas S. Wootton.

Semifinalists from MCPS were selected from among high school juniors who were top scorers on the 2024 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. About 15,000 semifinalists across the nation are expected to advance to the finalist stage of the competition.

Finalists will be considered for $2,500 National Merit scholarships, plus additional corporate-sponsored and college/university-sponsored scholarships that will be announced later in the school year.


Is MCPS comms so incompetent that they accidentally left Walter Johnson off their skimpy press release? They have 7 winners.

Good year for BCC! More semifinalists than Whitman and Walter Johnson despite being a smaller HS.

MCPS published the namelist in 2023:

But not for 2024 (published on a 3rd party media) nor 2025.

Checking out google, usually bethesda magazine or mocomedia publish the namelist ~ 1 week later than the cutoff announcement. I'd imagine we can wait a bit.
