I read that her family does not want her returned to Ukraine, but rather buried here in the United States. I found that so heartbreaking.

Another murder that I’m not sure if it’s being widely reported, because it’s local to us, is Dacara Thompson. Both are complete tragedies and senseless murders.

Violence against women is a real and major problem in this country. Unfortunately the Dacara Thompson case isn't particularly unusual.

There are almost 50 murders a day in America. Most are not going to get nationwide coverage unless there's something particularly "newsworthy" about it--i.e, it is particularly brutal, has unusual details (e.g., the kinky sex/au pair angles of the local murder of Christine Banfield), involves a certain combination of races of the victim and perpetrator, or feeds a specific political narrative. What about the Thompson murder do you think merits nationwide attention given the high number of daily murders in America?

I mean. It’s sad but people are sort of numb to it. That poor college professor was murdered in broad daylight in a park walking her dog. Auburn I think? Her killer was already arrested too. When they find the perp right away there tends to be less news about it.

This reminded me of the killing on the red line a few years ago, midday, 4th of July. That killer was even smaller, yet none of the large men present acted. Someone died then, too.

Why would anyone step in? Look what happened to Daniel Penny. The government protects criminals and prosecutes men who try to help.

Most murders aren't random acts of violence in a public setting. When medical emergencies occur in the presence of others, people usually provide assistance.

I think it is strange that this didn't get more attention to begin with, although I don't attribute any nefarious intent to that. Sometimes these incidents take a few more days to get out when they don't occur in a major metro area and, unfortunately, when the victim doesn't have a community immediately calling a lot of attention to it.

A beautiful young woman who is a refugee from the Ukrainian war is murdered by a stranger in the middle of her commute home, and video of the whole thing exists? Yea, that’s a pretty classic news story I’d expect the media to report on. At least as much as some middle-aged lady demanding a baseball back from a random dad.

Video of the incident wasn't public until the 5th, which is why it got more traction after that.

That actually didn’t happen. The people in her section got up and walked away as she collapsed. It took about 1 1/2 minutes before a man from the other side of the train came over and tried to help her.

Actually there is video that no one helped for a considerable time after the killer walked away. Finally people from the other end of the car did but she bled out.

This was all over daily mail days before national media. To the point I wondered if it was a hoax, but it was all too real. The discrepancy was jarring.

This is absolutely a national news story and would be even if the races were reversed. The video footage, bystander behavior, etc. makes it especially shocking.

I think the Mayor wanted the coverage withheld. Heartbreaking and of course scary to get on metro. It is only a matter of time before it happens here. No police on metro ever when you need them!
