lol at “some shedding.” They are indeed amazing dogs. But the shedding is crazy!

I love Goldens but boy the cancer problem is worrying. It was sort of a thing in my extended family to have Goldens (very large family they grew up with a couple of them), but recently every single one of them has been diagnosed with cancer before age 5.

Dear lord, don’t tell me that. What sort of cancer? Sex? Were they neutered/spayed late or early?

No, different breeders, different regions. All from legitimate breeders. The only one who lived a long life recently was a field golden. There was some bad luck for sure, but my grandmother's Goldens back in the day all lived to be at least 15, one even closer to 20.

We have a rescue who looks just like a small cream golden retriever but turns out to be a flat haired goldendoodle and she is perfect. This is coming from someone who has had a lot of dogs, and my vet friend said the same thing when she met her. So affectionate, smart, doesn’t bark, somehow doesn’t shed, under 35 lbs, great with all dogs and all age kids…

I have never met a Greyhound that wasn't super sweet so they are high on the list but I'd say Goldens are top all-around

Border Collie and collie crossbreds for me, but I have time and acreage to keep them entertained. They're incredibly smart and loving, and always entertaining.

My second choice would be a Great Pyrenees but they're also not for everyone. I've also had wonderful mutts.

For personality standard poodles they are so smart and understand everything you say. Very calm in the house but lots of fun outside. only downside is grooming is expensive
