We are full pay. DD Has her first part/time job on campus this year due to a relaxed schedule and is soooo excited about making < $70/wk for 4-5 hrs. This is less than her previous jobs which were all summer/winter internships paying at least $20/hr but I am glad she is doing this as it’ll teach her things she won’t learn elsewhere!

Nope that is for parents til they graduate. Unless unforseen circumstances like parent job loss or illness.

DD gets $0 from us and she would not take anything either as we are footing the bill for her Ivy education (full pay), She uses her own earned money for eating out, etc. I do remember her buying shoes off my Amazon account one time — the rest was on her account with her money.

My friend’s daughter also full pay at a different Ivy gets $2500 per month and mom asked me if I thought that was enough. To say I was speechless would be an understatement. So I guess it depends on individual circumstances.

My son covers his own additional expenses from his summer job and campus jobs. There are a few things that come up that I cover or we check in about how to pay.

They really depends on how many hours they work and what the wage is.
Could be $100-$400 a week

My kid lives off campus in Boston. No meal plan. Probably $500-600/month. We don’t really track it. She uses our joint credit card.

My son works in the summer to pay for things outside of room and board. I do let him order toiletries etc on my Amazon account. He usually earns around $5k each summer and from that he also pays for his car insurance and gas.

It depends on the school. My kids attend(ed) WAS/ivy with very large endowment per student. Both schools make a point of having part time jobs for any student who wants one, though work study gets priority of course. There are usually paid student jobs that are not filled due to lack of demand. The most desirable tend to be weight room or library desk at $12 per hour, 6-8 hrs a week because you can get work done. The highest paid tend to be learning-assistant jobs for undergrads which are earn up to $3k a semester depending. Caveat is have to be an A student to be invited and it can be a lot of hours, and the earliest one can do it is sophomore year. There are also paid research assistant jobs in many departments.

Depends on what the kids at that college do for fun - often comes down to whether school is urban or rural and private or public.

Mine started saving and investing in stock market since he was 12, now he has 16k to last him four years, which translates to 300-400 a month. He can work summer jobs if he wants more money.
