While violence is concerning, I'm not concerned about my own safety. The offenders and victims are almost always connected to one another.

Shootings are up throughout the region in lower- to middle-class areas. Just stay in the upper class areas where basically nothing has changed, and you'll be fine -- upper NW DC, North Arlington, McLean, Great Falls, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, and Potomac are all safe bets.

I am concerned about the rise in shootings too. Shootings used to be so rare, not anymore.
