When kids break the rules great teachers take the blame whether they report the infraction or not. Sometimes admin doesn't like reports and they will retaliate on the teachers. However if you don't report they might make you in trouble. It's really a crapshoot when talking about rules and mcps. Also mcea is spineless and will not protect teachers from corruption

Too many teachers are worried about being the “cool” teacher. There is a very fine line between being the “cool” teacher and being an adult seeking validation from teenagers.

This isn't good, but it's the kind of thing that happens in high schools.

I always feel like I'm such a hedonist or something when I say that this is the kind of stuff that's been happening at schools for forever. Now kids have cameras always available and kids are not always great at making smart decisions.

Kids having sex at school and getting caught - that's a disciplinary issue. Kids videoing themselves or others having sex - that's a legal problem if anyone is under 18. So that needs to be addressed.

Sounds like the cell phone ban is doing great. Such a joke this entire school system

There isn't a practical way to enforce it, so what do you expect? Do you want to bring in the TSA nude body scanners to high schools?

Locked pouches. They work.

Weird that's where your mind went

“She told me to come, but I was already there.”

Did you read the headline of the article?

I don't see that anywhere

Jesus. This makes school sound like a prison.

If there's no practical way to enforce, stop stating that there's a ban in place. If you can't back up your policy because it's not realistic, change your policy to reflect reality and your capabilities.

I have kids at two different high schools. At one school, they’re trying to find a workaround to allow the journalism class to continue posting teacher approved TikToks of their reporting because they’re taking the ban so seriously. At the other high school, my kid kept texting me during instructional time. I asked how they were able to do that and they said that in that class, they’re allowed to use their phones after they’ve completed their work. My kid could have been lying, but I was receiving an awful lot of texts, so it seems hard to believe my kid was able to do it surreptitiously. This kid isn’t slick like that.

Again, the problems with cell phones in schools is not the policy. It's the enforcement. And so long as we leave it up to teachers to decide how and whether to enforce, you'll get scenarios like this where some teachers allow kids to use their phones "once they're done with their work."

It’s the policy as well as enforcement, or at least the training on the policy. In the scenario I described above, one teacher believes the policy does not give teachers any discretion at all to allow the use of cell phones during class. The other teacher believes they have discretion. If it’s a countywide policy, why don’t they have the same understanding?

But even if they have the same understanding, you will have individual teachers making up their own minds on how hard they want to enforce, because it's a confrontation that might go against their personality, or they might decide the energy is not worth the fight.

If that is true, then that teacher is a real jerk. It takes one like him/her to ruin it for all of the teachers who are trying to maintain a phone free environment, either because they believe in a phone free environment and that it’s better for the education, or because they’re complying with the new policy. Then the kids will want to use phones everywhere and it makes it so hard for everybody else.

You have to pick your battles.

Disagree. The policy is in place. There is no battle to pick.

How else would you interpret "inappropriate intimate behavior ".

Maybe they were having a very personal discussion about their feelings.
