Any good recipes you can share? Fruit leather sounds interesting.

Your 4 yr old won't be able to reach even the low branches and be strong enough to pull the apples.

We went to Gaver Farm and he loved it! Could definitely reach the low branches and did a pretty good job pulling the apples, too. We’re going to check out some other of the recommendations as well.

Bethesda/Chevy Chase area.

I feel like we slacked in previous years and then had some busy weekends and missed it. Trying to be sure we actually make it this year!

Go to Homestead Farms in Potomac.

My favorite is Mackintosh Farm in Berryville, but that would be pretty far for you. Gaver Farm in Mount Airy is good, too.

Stribling Orchard! Go early, beautiful views, lots of poles for the higher up apples.

You want to go apple picking in Sept... NOT Oct. In Oct, most places are packed with Halloween/fall seeking folks and more bees b/c the older "crops" are rotting.

Butlers is the worst-it’s the one people know about so you get everyone from MD and DC. And yeah they have activities for the kids but it’s always so packed I feel like it’s not even enjoyable. It’s also by far the most expensive and a serious pain having to be stuck in the huge line arriving and leaving.

Homestead is our favorite but it’s also becoming super popular and overrun so we go as soon as it opens in the morning and it’s fine.

We’ve gone to Homestead for 10+ years. Any time between now and October is fine. Their website shows which apples are currently ready. Have fun!
