Our charter school does it too, but it seems to be a fully positive experience of celebrating their friendship. My kid loved it, and the pictures are incredible.

Maybe because OP’s kid is in private and was just making a comment? There’s no all-school forum, why would a private school parent go into the public school forum and ask how their senior traditions are going? That doesn’t mean both types of schools don’t have similar traditions.

If you wrote on this thread bashing public or private grow up. Right now the US a mess and you all are wasting energy on the dumbest thing. There wind no freedom to watch sunsets after 2028 think about that . Your vhikyare about to lose all their rights. Especially the right to vote by 2026

Our Arlington public school does this, while our small private does it on campus.

Our private also does at Ft Reno. Not a slight in Lincoln Memorial - they do that the morning after prom.

Good article on this tradition in Washington Post recently (highlighting that this is tradition for Yorktown public HS).

My kid had a beautiful sunrise and loved it. To each their own.

Yes Jackson-Reed does not do this! I feel better knowing this.


MacArthur did this at the Georgetown waterfront. It was wonderful. Principal and APs were there as were a number of other faculty and admins. Krispy Kreme donuts, coffee, and other treats while the seniors watched the sunrise and record their impressions for instagram. It was lovely!!

You sound bitter.

I think they were actually making fun of the bitter-sounding public school parent calling this activity one for “fancy private schools”. Reality is that not every private school has this tradition and some public schools do.
