Of course you had to supplement your LD child to help them keep up, Parents will always be the primary educators not secondary esp if they need more.

I think the issue for PP is that her older, advanced child doesn't need so much supplementing because MCPS does a good job offering that in school.

In DCPS this is flipped -- if you have an advanced student, you will have to do a ton of supplementing and be way more involved in their education. But if your child has LDs or needs help getting to grade level, DCPS has a lot of programming and money focused on students in this category and while parents of SN kids will always need to be involved, you may have an easier time accessing a good situation for your child.

It's very hard for schools to do both. That's why when parents have kids in both categories, you often see them going private or trying specialized charters with the one who isn't being well served. In DC, that's why you see a lot of advanced kids in privates and the charter system, but in MCPS it's flipped and a lot of kids with LDs go to specialized privates (if they can afford it) to get those needs met.

The new boundaries will be finalized in the spring of 2026, to start taking effect in the fall of 2027.

Clearly you aren’t paying attention. Only 9th and 6th graders get the new programs in 2027. It will be 2030 before every secondary school is offering only their new programs. Taylor has shared a very complicated chart to show this.

You lack reading comprehension.

There is simply no comparison between BCC and any public high school in DC other than Walls. BCC is much, much better. In my view, it's the best non-magnet school in MC. It's much more diverse and interesting than the so-called "W" schools with a large cohort of high achieving students. It's test scores are strong and it does well on the college admissions front.

To me, this is a no-brainer. I'm not suggesting that OP should move to MC necessarily, because living in DC is cool, but if the only question is whether BCC is a better high school than any neighborhood school in DC the answer is obvious.
