I always golf with at least one other person I know. So that way there is someone to laugh/commiserate with if someone is being a jerk. I also have had numerous people - good golfers, golf instructors, etc repeatedly tell me: you belong here. You are playing respectfully and you bought a tee time. So act like you belong here.
Finally, do whatever you’d do if someone was being a jerk, or what you’d do in a workplace if someone was taking up your space. In a bored voice “Wow, Jim. That was bold. Having a bad day?” Then carry on. Unbothered, unhurried. I know it is hard, but don’t shrink yourself to fit a jerk’s desire for you to take up less space.

Signed a male golfer that’s played public courses for 45 years and has no patience with idiots.

Agree. Golf, bowling, & softball are popular with some men because they can be performed with a belly full of beer.

They can’t “play through” because they aren’t waiting or catching up to us. Also we don’t play slow so that’s not the issue
The heckling was a situation where 2 holes were side by side but in the opposite direction… also guys hit their ball onto the wrong fairway all the time.

I only do the 9 holes courses in moco
