Would not see a Duke President fired for Palestinian/ Israel war positions. She should not have been fired at UPenn recently.Agree different demographics.

Great ECs, 3.97 uw gpa. Where shud be for his major and to maximize his chances

I mean this is a personal choice for your son to make. What insight can we bring when we don't know your son or you at all???

Which school does he want to go to more? ED should always be reserved for his 1st choice. Also, never ED to a school your DC has never visited. So just go with his first choice. We are all randos. We don't know how to make this decision for you.

This, basically all otters schools. Apply to kid’s first choice,

Not much applicant crossover with Penn very different cultural demographics. Duke chapel
Is focal point of the main campus with Cameron Indoor 2nd. Penn has more in common with Brown, WashU, and Emory. Duke crowd more aligned with old Princeton era and still Dartmouth not Penn.

Duke is Duke and attracts different demographics than Penn. The college experience at Duke is priceless vs 500 people watching Penn play Brown in low Division football.

Penn’s alumni network is unmatched if you are going to NYC and is strong on the West Coast as well (much better than Duke in these areas).

+1 ivy brand wins for alum network everywhere but in the south

Penn has the more difficult application group in ED. Carolinas students are the predominant duke ones but for out of state duke ed is less competitive. Based on all out of state naviance/scoir data in our region. Hooks are not shown in our data. Unhooked Duke is slightly easier ED than Penn ED.

I decided between the two regular decision 30+ years ago. I revisited after accepted and it was clear to me (though not an easy decision). Visit them both and see which "feels" right.

The schools have a lot of overlap but are definitely different. Depends on where you are coming from, personality, interests, feel.

Agree that Penn A&S is the best choice. The reputation still lags Wharton, by a lot. Duke is kind of its own cult. Northwestern is a step down.

Depends on the HS. 8 kids from DC's magnet admitted to Penn this cycle, 4 to Duke. Not sure how many applied ED.
