It would be helpful if everyone (even people who don't drive!) reported any police of any type they see anywhere on Waze. Aside from sparing your fellow Washingtonian lots of headaches, it would be the worst thing in the world for the administration to spend all this money on enforcement and have virtually nothing in the way of arrests to show for it.

If you get stuck in a very long traffic jam, longer than usual, it’s a checkpoint.

I was stuck in this too yesterday. I didn’t have to show ID like a PP said, but it doubled my commute and did feel very distopian.

If you didn't have to show ID what did they ask you to do?

They narrowed three lanes down to one and you had to drive through slowly

They are probably going after people with accents, low English skills or ethnic names. They probably ask everyone to avoid discrimination law suits, but it is not meant for people who seem “American”

This. Irony is I’m not American, but I am a white blonde woman so they don’t care and don’t ask me anything.

Even so, everyone has to waste an hour sitting in their car, waiting to get through the checkpoint.

Of course, by then it's too late.

Traffic was so backed up yesterday, you could definitely bail before the checkpoint.

Yes everyone(not just the driver) has to show ID and proof of citizenship. A real ID is not proof of citizenship. You also have to give a reason why you are traveling- where you are going, who you are meeting, where you are coming from, address of employer, etc. They can impounded your car and take your phone if ICE or Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

No.

I can't believe a city full of political operatives haven't figured out how to defeat this. There should be a way to get text alerts about checkpoints so people can avoid them.

You never have to answer any questions. It's called the Fifth Amendment.

Is this legal?
