There is nothing illegal about paying with those methods. You could even use barter or glass shards and trinkets if you wanted.

It is entirely up to the person receiving pay to keep track of it for IRS purposes.

Venmo is legal, but a 1099 is not. She's your household employee. If you pay her more than $1000 you have to pay household employee tax. You can fold this into your regular income tax payment every year. Then you give your nanny a W2, though you don't have to withhold her taxes for her. We spent years not doing it for ours, but eventually did at the request of one of them.

OP it's really not that hard. We did it all ourselves using spreadsheets and TurboTax.

When we had a nanny, I used a payroll service. I also had worker's comp insurance. I got a tax id number and registered with DC. It was all above board. I'm a fed.

I agree with the rest of the group that the bigger issue is finding a nanny to work part time hours.

Not true for workers in your home.

Has nothing to do with anything. Many types of workers "work in a person's home".

I’ve had a PT position in the past and both parents were Feds so i got paid on the books but my rate was higher (about $35 /25 hours)
