I'm not a chef nor am I lazy nor am I a chef (and neither are you). I commute 2 hours each way. My kids can quickly microwave leftovers I spent hours cooking over the weekend a lot safer than they could by using my gas stove top. Happy now?
My kids are generally happy to eat leftovers unwarmed. They also complain that microwaved stuff is cold on the outside and burning on the inside. Which seems to be true if you don't take some care with the settings.
How old are your kids?
By the time my kids were old enough to be left at home long enough to need to warm up their own food they were also old enough to use the stove.
One of my children is ASD ADHD and he can use the stove now at 16 of course. He cooks a whole meal by himself. When he was younger I absolutely did not trust him with gas. He never ever complained that his food is hot on the outside and not on the inside.

Anonymous wrote:I moved to an apartment without a microwave and for the first two months I also felt like “wow I don’t really need this!” But then there were times where I was in a rush and it would have been helpful. I don’t know if OP has a stressful job or not, but during times of stress, not being able to reheat leftovers quickly left me stressed out.
I cook plenty on the stove/oven/Ip but yeah I also use the microwave.

So you chose your house poorly.

Why don't you just share your experience like the OP asked... do you find the microwave a cooking tool you can't live without?
It's the lecturing, smug nature of OPs post that I find very repulsive. She clearly knows what a microwave does. Get real.
What makes you think the OP DIDN'T know what a microwave is for? She asked what you like to use for... that's smug?
Feels like she hit a nerve and you're maybe sensitive about your over-use of your microwave?
YOU sound defensive. I don't care if you make every meal from grinding your flour to making your own peanut butter. Just don't come here telling me how it's superior to whatever I'm doing. An appliance exists for a reason.
I mean, this IS a forum about cooking and food and people are constantly talking about what tools and appliances they like best... what exactly is the problem for asking people if they also don't find the microwave particularly necessary?
Also the OP asks people what they DO use it for, so if you've got something really important that OP isn't thinking of, this is your chance to join the convo.
She tells us how much she doesn't need it first, and then asks what we use ours for. So does she need it or not?
