It is very much harder to get into the top VA schools from Northern Virginia. But as far as every other competitive school that is not a VA state school, it’s no harder to get in from NoVA than from any other well educated, relatively affluent area.
It’s harder to get in from Nova than from other parts of Virginia anywhere, with a handful of other VA high schools sprinkled within VA. Of course, they’re in the same boat as SF, NY etc.
