LCPS, 34 days off
My childhood school district, 22 days off (no teacher work days and religous holidays)
I was curious and looked. I counted 23 at mine. They are in school September 3 through June 4.
This is with W-F off for Thanksgiving and two full weeks for winter break (off Dec 22 and return January 5).

This would mean that if Thanksgiving is a 5-day weekend along with 2 weeks off in late December/early January and a week of spring break there are only 4 other days off!

Sorry it doesn’t work for you! I have ES aged kids, so I think it is amazing. (Nothing happens after Memorial Day except movies, pajama day, field day, etc.) I prefer a 5-day stretch in potentially warmer weather than at the end of January.

Based on what we are seeing thru our HR/hiring, the answer is all current grads coming out of HS and college. If never go to school for 5 days in row, why expect them to go to a job that long
Ok. I wanted to make sure you weren’t referencing school staff.
Quite the opposite- the FCPS schedule can be even more rough on teachers and especially if they have their own kids in other school districts that don’t have the same days- not to mention the teachers take a lot of kit list of direct shots from parents complaining over what they have no control

Reid is responsible for this one and the school board needs to reign her in. During a recent school board meeting, McElveen asked her about having a calendar committee, like there used to be, to make decisions about the calendar. Reid very directly replied that she didn't need a committee for the calendar. And her office has very quietly been releasing calendars, which just keep getting worse. They are currently available through the 2027-2028 school year.

Yes, it's because Memorial Day is on 5/25 and Eid al-Adha is on 5/27. So they made 5/26 a teacher workday, probably figuring that attendance would be very low that day if school was open.

Or some of us with older kids LIKE that there are days off throughout the school year to allow our kids to sleep in and breathe a little. I’m a fan of year round school so it’s okay with me if the kids have less time to forget everything they learned.
NO NO NO to year round school! Yes people need breaks. Long Thanksgiving weekend, 2 weeks in December into January, 1 week in February and 1 week in April.
All they are missing is the 1 in February. The spring break should be in mid to late April regardless of Easter.
Some of the random off days need to go, only close if over 10% would be absent.
