for some dogs, diversity can work. So if you mix up peanut butter one day with liverwurst the next then whipped cream or cheese in a can or whatever they don't get bored with/suspicious of any one thing.

My dog likes cheese, so I just mold some cheese around a pill. She also loves popcorn so I've considered maybe securing a pill in a kernel but I'm not sure it'll work!

My dogs don't eat socks. They do eat peanut butter, yogurt and cheese, even spray cheese in a can. Incidentally, my vet does indeed use the spray can cheese as a bribe. A little peanut butter or cheese or deli meat is perfectly fine and not at all like eating a sock which might require a surgical fix .

It ends with meat and cheese, obviously. Do you really think dogs get sick of meat and stop eating it?

Liverwurst is good. Any cheese is good. Offer it to him, tempt him, pull it away then give it to him and immediately give him another, pill-free piece of the same thing. Dogs swallow whole in the wild and he'll swallow the first one with the pills in a hurry to get the second one.

I use pill crusher to smash both pill and little bit smashed treat, then mix with dog kibble.

PP could've been more gentle in their wording, but the point is solid. When your elderly dog refuses meds and makes basic survival needs a battle, they're telling you, in the only way they can, that they're done.

The kindest thing we do for our pets is give them a good death, ideal while they're still themselves. OP's dog may not be there yet, but they all end up there (unless something awful happens to take them away from us early). No point in pretending it doesn't happen.
