It is a shame to make assumptions about how our own children will fare based on test scores and demographics from other children.
I understand that your children are at Fairfax High School but indeed test scores are a big factor in parents picking a school.
OP, you should not be concerned if it gets rezoned to Chantilly. Your concern (even bigger than if it gets rezoned to Fairfax High) is if your child ends up at Abdullah (or whatever it will be named) High School. I bet that is closer to you than Oakton high.
I am sure that all the schools are fine. However, if you are at Navy or Waples Mill, it is VERY unlikely you would be redistricted to KAA. If you are at Crossfield, you have a chance of being redistricted there. And, I am sure it will be a fine school.
OP. Navy but this is the last year so Elementary doesn't bother me. It's the rezoning to a different high school than Oakton is what DH is worried about. Some people could take the hit in home prices going down a few hundred. Since we only purchased a couple of years ago and it wasn't a value purchase at all, with our household income that would hurt. Just wondering if anyone thinks Abdullah purchase would affect us. I had to look that up when a PP mentioned.
I think OP, you misunderstood my post. High schools are usually assigned by elementary school areas (though there can be some that are "split feeders.")
If your child is at Navy, it is very unlikely that your area will be rezoned to KAA or Fairfax High School. Depending on where you live, I guess it is possible to be rezoned to Chantily.
This is all speculation. No one on DCUM knows.
