PP here. Our school sends kids to Elon but not Furman. With our DS stats and our income, Elon isn't going to be an option. Miami of Ohio, which I view as a big Furman, is the same thing. He could get in, but we won't get much aid.

A lot of the PA liberal arts colleges are great but will be expensive for us. And frankly more than we can or want to pay.

The smugs on this forum like to sh.t on the school, but my two were drawn to the great science (bio, chem, biochem) faculty, the facilities, and the cadaver lab.

P.S. most of the replies on the current pre-med thread thread are categorically wrong.

Elon and Rollins would be great. But would be too much based on the NPC. Thought about Berry and Sewanee. Saw Dickinson and Carlisle isn’t close to Greenville. Much smaller and a little tired. Lancaster is a better town but Franklin and Marshall is a tough admit.

If you're considering Pennsylvania schools like Dickinson and Franklin & Marshall, take a look at Gettysburg as well. While it's a small town, it's nice and quaint, and the tourism allows for a higher amount of things to do and restaurant selection than the typical small town.

What does your kid want to study? That should be a major consideration.

OP, if you're in the DC area, your child has a good shot at Furman. They really, really want to increase their visibility in the DMV. My older son got in with a lot of merit, but could not get past the country club vibe. And unfortunately, his last visit was on a dull Sunday afternoon when the lake area looked more like a retirement community than a college. Taking younger son to see Furman soon but predict it will not be his scene, either.

I thought Elon was an easier admit than Furman?

Yeah, that’s odd. Elon has a 67% acceptance rate while Furman is 53%.

For the characterics you describe, but in a northern school, look into St. Lawrence, which resides on 1,100 acres.
