We tried two coaches and both situations were not successful. First coach was not experienced enough, didn't really seem to help. Second coach was very experienced but too rigid for DS. Wanted DS to use her system, he didn't want to, I think they just argued the whole time. We gave up on it.

Maybe it could work with the right fit, but we didn't find that. By the time DS had tried two, he was just DONE so we couldn't keep going with #3.

I’ve got to think about this. With the other tutors DC will need, I don’t know if I can swing this too. One of them even charges an “intake fee” in the hundreds of dollars, before they even get started meeting with the kid.

This! you can spend all the money in world but if your child is not motivated then it's like throwing your money in the garbage. I say this as a parent who did hire one for my DS in high school. He was somewhat ready for this but it really wasn't until he got to college that he got it together. Maturity plays a huge role in this.

FWIW - there are many great EF coaches who are not SLPs!

Maybe some of you need an EF coach yourselves to help you learn to read effectively 🙂.

As an EF coach myself, I completely agree that it isn't worth it if your child doesn't want a coach. They need to be open to it for it to work.

The only disadvantage to in person is we found that shorter, more frequent sessions were more helpful and that's harder to do in person.

MCPS does not hold kids accountable

You and executive function coach will need to be involved and on top of things

Mcps is tightening it’s grading and deadlines standards so be careful
