Relax. My DH (who is also black) grew up listening to Compton’s Most Wanted, NWA, Ice-T, and all the others that came with the "advisory labels" He's incredibly nice, respectful, a feminist, former military officer and current C level at a FAANG. Somehow he didn't grow up to be....whatever it is you are worried about.

ONG, get a grip. With all that's out there, this is a worry that will kill you!

The more important thing is whether your kid knows the difference between right and wrong. If so, no external thing is going to influence him that intensely.

I play for my kids Beastie Boys and my athlete 12 yr old DD listens to some bad Eminem as hype music. It's fun and it's not anything to be worried about. She's a straight A student so you know...

First time you ever heard real rap eh? That's still light-core stuff compared to hardcore rap and especially to street level underground rap.


Drill rap is not light-core, why would you say that?

By comparison to other genres it is not light core. Pop music, rock music whatever is left, hip hop. I’d rather have my kids under 14 listen to rappers like Cardi B than the violent ones.

Welcome to my world. Our teen is 16yo now. He’s expanded beyond King Von and there’s a variety of drill rap coming from his room now. His love for this rap is genuine. Not at all what I’d choose to listen to myself, not the hill I’m going to die on.
