Their booking system is compromised. The scammers see your phone number, with the area code (maryland). They call you and you say, oh that's weird, and pay with a different card.

I don’t know but I would just call the bank, tell them what happened, and follow their instructions.

Op here, the person who called was not from a bank. The person claimed that they had an unauthorized charge on their card, that they were from MD, and they mentioned the last 4 digits of the card (mine) and the amount.

This all happened within 30 minutes of me paying the bill at the salon. Also they supposedly had a foreign accent (which I only mention because it wasn’t a family member of mine or anything like that).

I don’t see how they could have logged in to my bank website to see that I had charged something at this particular salon, because I have 2FA and would have seen.

So the only way I can think of for someone to connect my card’s last 4, plus salon name, plus home location (based on phone #) is the salon booking / POS system. —OP

Yes, that is also possible. If you find out how they process payments you could also call and report there as well. I would, just to get to the bottom of what’s compromised.

1. Why would someone call the salon if the salon were compromised. They would try to use your card at the gas station, etc.
2. Was it actually your bank calling? Did the salon say your bank in Maryland called? Because my bank's fraud department is in San Antoinio, so someone calling from Maryland, where I'm from, wouldn't even make sense. Or they just said "someone" called from "Maryland"?

If they knew your recent transactions, then either your account or a device of yours has been compromised in some way. Definitely report and investigate
