OP here. No room for a console. Space for one piece of artwork that is 10” wide max. It’s a tiny colonial. Rug I have is vintage with reds and blues. It’s beautiful but not very bright….
Do a piece of art flanked by sconces, or maybe a wall mounted console or shelf. Adding lighting other than the overhead will make a huge difference. And make the overhead a fabulous lantern or something.
