What? $2k is more than I spend on vacation. I'd travel and then upgrade to a beach house for our week at the beach. I'd love to just walk out to the beach instead of get in the car and drive 10 minutes.

I'd donate a good portion. Think how many people the food bank could feed with 2k/month. That's 4,000 meals.

I'd put half to three quarters into one big vacation per year. Since the kids are in college in this scenario (in reality I have one in college and one still in high school), I'd want to spend my money doing things that will entice them to join me for a week. $12-18K will go far for a winter or summer break vacation for a family of 4. And college kids can be so much fun to travel with!

The other $6-12K would be spent a little each week or month. Smaller weekend getaways for DH and me. Gym membership, one with a pool and steam room. Hobbies. Hosting neighborhood gatherings with excellent food.
