These types of responses are disappointing. An appropriate response would be "I don't have any information about this test, but let me do some research and possibly refer you to another physician with expertise." There is solid peer-reviewed literature here. Richard Frye, MD PhD has even written a book on it. Order the test yourself and kick that ped to the curb!

They need a medical doctor to sign the test form before it will be processed so they should ask the doctor to sign the form for information discovery, only.
Assuming its positive, they will them have a lab test to show the physician they find to help. They can also just send the research about dosing to their current doctor. Its the least complicated thing I can imagine. Check b12 with b12 and mma test, dose 1 to 2 mg of leucovorin for every kg of body weight. Start at allow dose. Get up to target dose slowly. Any negative effects, back off and go slower

Here is why pediatricians need to order the test even if they dont want to prescribe the vitamin. You shouldn't have to pay out of pocket for a specialist just to find out if the child has the antibodies. You already have to pay for the blood and the test itself.

She wouldn't sign off on the frat test?

Correct - this is actually a developmental pediatrician.

That's too bad. I would switch to a practice that can stay current on the evolving science.
Potomac Psychiatry has a neurodevelopmental pediatrician who is more current and has ordered the frat test for us.

I am thinking of trying him - can you post more about your experience?

What would you like to know?

Do they take insurance?

No. Most psychiatrists do not take insurance directly. You have to ask for a superbill and submit that to your insurance company yourself.

The rest of the treatment " is a water soluble vitamin. If your pediatrician cant get her brain around how prescribing a vitamin with almost no known side effects might help a vitamin deficiency- get a different pediatrician.
Doctors prescribe off label all the time.
