But this is the crux of the issue. The Jewish homeland was land that people were already living on for hundreds of years. While in the Zionist / birthright mindset, kicking them off the land was a-ok bc they Zionist positioned them as “invaders” that is pure fiction. The genetic evidence and archeology record tells the more likely story that they were were descended from the same ancestors as the Jewish people, continued to live in the land (intermarrying with others from the ME as travel became easier), and eventually converted to Christianity and then Islam.

But since the zionists believe so whole heartedly the Palestinians were invaders they treated them as the enemy, kicking them out of the homes and sequestering them to smaller and smaller pieces of land (not recognized as a country) subject to air / land / sea blockades. Understandablythe Palestinians did not like this treatment and fought back. And so it is - the back and forth cycle of violence that did not just begin on 10/7.

As a non Jewish person with zero ties to the ME, I can share how my thoughts on the Jewish homeland have evolved.

If you had asked me before or around Oct 7 whether “Jews deserve a homeland”, the answer would have been unambiguously “of course”. I figured that there are Christian, Muslim, Hindu majority countries so why not a Jewish majority country. Also I understood the trauma of holocaust necessitated a space for people to feel safe and rebuild their lives and culture.

I hadn’t ever really considered how that homeland came to be, and what would need to happen to the displaced people in order to make this work. And the more I think about it, the less I am convinced that any group of people have an unshakable right to a place at the expense of others around them. Does the Republican Party have “rights” to Oklahoma? Sure seems like it. But the reason that Oklahoma is so Republican is that people who live there choose that condition for themselves (which is fine). If a bunch of people started to become democrats and people who have democratic feelings that live there were organized and decided to all vote, Oklahoma could become a democratic state and that would be fine too. You can’t dictate forever the identity of a piece of land and that has many different types of people on it. The rights of the people of Oklahoma trump the rights of the Republican Party. And so in the same way, the rights of the population living in Israel trump the rights of the Jewish state. I no longer believe that there is some sort of right to a Jewish state.

DP so Israel did not kill over 50 Palestinians on average per month for the 8 months leading up to Oct7? Did Israel propose annexing the West Bank before Oct7? Did Israel allow the existence of a Palestinian state before Oct7? No

Oct7 had under a 100 Hamas fighters crossing the border to take hostages. Israel responded by using artillery and tank fire killing many of the civilians Israelis killed on that day.

Israel cares nothing about the Hostages or non right wing ultra conservative Jews/Israelis. Look at how Bibi treated the hostages who are largely from left of center areas. He killed them.

Let’s be real about the blame for this. Israel could have had every hostage back in November. Bibi did not want to do the typical hostage for hostages exchange. Israelis action before and after Oct7 are the cause.

Ok, I get it, it’s an endless game of tit-for-tat that will just go on forever, unless one side completely annihilates the other.

The US involvement is time limited based on the importance of ME oil. Once the oil fades ( or no longer needed), US will pull back. The whole area will be treated similar to Africa. So might want to figure this out by then.
