Sources say that Dan doesn't want it. I'd love it if he did want the job but I think he's looking toward retirement. He was very ill a few years ago before he left the principalship at PES.

^ although Fairfax City kids will stay at Fairfax HS by law. So in that case you just have to decide whether that school is acceptable.

Fairfax City has high density housing so that affects the school ratings but it's not like annandale high density housing so the effect is muted.

There is enough of a critical mass of good athletes for them to have a good athletics programs. There is enough of a critical mass of smart kids to have a good cadre of honors type kids. If you are looking for better schools in the same housing price range, I would look at the neighboring Woodson pyramid

Completely true all around. Nice place to leave, and we had good experiences with the three schools our kids attended there. There was a sense of community between the schools that felt sincere.

It really isn’t on the same level as Chantilly or Woodson but as others said you don’t need to worry about boundary changes if you live in Fairfax City. The county kids who attend the schools owned by Fairfax City like Fairfax can and do occasionally get redistricted.

Fairfax HS is kind of under-the-radar, possibly because of Woodson's intense academic reputation and the exclusive Mantua community. But Fairfax City has good schools serving solidly middle class neighborhoods. There's even a decent, walkable downtown.

It probably makes a difference what pyramid you're looking at in the county compared to Fairfax City schools. That said, we were looking at the Frost/Woodson pyramid, which is very highly regarded, and Fairfax City when we were buying a house, and have been so happy to have chosen Fairfax City.

It's been especially nice over the past year not to worry about the boundary changes, since Fairfax City kids all go to city schools.

Nah, county kids from Willow Springs ES prop up the Johnson MS and Fairfax HS test scores. Without them the Fairfax schools would be even more mid.

Willow springs is absolutely wonderful! How would you know? Did your child attend and have a terrible experience?

Yes and I know others who couldn't wait to get out of there too.
