And they have probably never actually handled cash in their own lived, like ever. The only bills my youngest has ever used are foreign currency when traveling for school. They can count and do multivariable calculus, but making change is a novelty.

Nobody here goes to the nail salon? A bunch of them have signs about charging for the cc fee. All kinds of mom and pop places, immigrant-owned spots, farmer's markets, small transactions--I feel like a jerk for using a card for a $3 transaction.

Credit card fees are pretty bad for low dollar transactions because they are structured to have a base fee plus a percentage of the total transaction price. That’s why some small businesses don’t take credit card for under a certain amount. It can eat their entire profit margin. I pay cash at the farmers market and corner store.

I’m 47 so I’ve been using cash for a long time, but sometimes I get math anxiety around cash. I freeze up and struggle to do the math in my head. I just need a moment to think it through. And I took AP calculus in high school and honors math level in college. I was also in math competitions for fun in high school so I’m not bad at math per se but it takes me a moment to process. Please show some grace to your cashiers.
