They show up at all A and B meets, divisionals and all star events.
Selecting swimmers for meets takes more time than you think.
We have a head volunteer that sends the emails to handle substitutions and those are just based on best times. Maybe in division 1 there are a lot of choices. Once you get passed division 3 it's mostly whomever is available to swim.

It’s more than 4h a day. Who do you think plans out the daily workouts across multiple age groups? At our pool, practices alone run for 4.5 hours / day. That doesn’t include planning or meets.
