As a former coach and current parent of a competitive Division Team (D2-4), head coaches make between $8k-$12k.

I know a few head coaches teams floating around D13-17 who make around $5k

I could never be a swim coach. It's a ton of work for sure. Lots of administrative stuff on top of actually coaching the kids. Not to mention having to chat with parents. But how much do your head coaches coach? I'm curious if the instruction is only given through the jr coaches.

Selecting swimmers for meets takes more time than you think.

We have a head volunteer that sends the emails to handle substitutions and those are just based on best times. Maybe in division 1 there are a lot of choices. Once you get passed division 3 it's mostly whomever is available to swim.

Parents like you are the absolute worst part of summer swim.

Or pep rallies or other team social activities. It’s easily 40+ hours a week when you add up two meets, daily practice time, pep rallies, and developing meet sheets.

The coach did not know my kids names. I don't care that he didn't know my name but I thought it was odd he didn't know my kids names. Like I said they go to practice and attend meets. The assistant coaches know my kids but not the head. I just thought that was odd. The coach talked more about his partner in his 2 second speech at the banquet than about the team and the season.

We bounce around in the top third. We pay our head coach $11,000 and there is usually a sizable gift of $1000 cash at the end.

Talking to my peers we pay very much on the high end of the scale. Most of the coaches make nowhere near that. NVSL did a survey so I know we are on the better end. There are like two division one teams that pay a ton, but most coaches do not make a lot.

Lower divisions pay their head coaches like $4000 for the summer.
