Lands End is just cruel to buy for a tween.

North Face or plain old Jansport.

NP. Why?

There's nothing wrong with Lands End, some of my DD's friends have them. That PP is just a rich nasty snob. Normal kids have Lands End, kids whose moms' sole purpose in life is to stay pretty so her lawyer husband won't leave her maybe don't have them.

Lands End and Jansport are the same price but the latter isn’t babyish. It IS cruel to purposely buy lame gear and make kids social targets when it’s easily avoidable.

My daughter just asked for a Lands End backpack, so I bought it for her. It isn’t babyish at all. Just looks like a regular backpack. https://www.landsend.com/products/kids-classmate-large-backpack/id_337384?attributes=30936,43321,43555,43562

She is well-liked and very nice (not a mean girl at all). I doubt it will make her a social target.

This backpack is nice/fine and versatile. I agree not to get something with big hearts all over it, but a solid backpack or maybe a stripe in a color like red/green/black/navy is something I see a lot. You just don’t want a print that looks like the pottery barn backpack my first grader wears.

I think Jansport or North Face or any plain sporty looking one is always safe.

Where is this? Not seeing that either the private our oldest attends or large VA public out youngest attends.

Plenty of rich lawyers buy their kids Land’s End and LL Bean. In fact, those brands are popular among that set and their backpacks cost more than a Jansport.

I have teen/tween boys who have been using their sans under armour bags for years. Boys don’t care. No idea about girls, but I would definitly not buy the backpack pictured it’s embarrassing.

My rising 9th graders will use the same Jansports they have had. Girl has pale pink and boy has grey. That being said, I’m off to google how to clean that pale pink one that has a leather base. And if she gets wind that there is a Lululemon option she will want that.

My middle school daughters both got Northface last year. Held up well and sticking with them this year.

My 6th grader is deciding between a light pink Jansport or a light pink North face. She’s been discussing it with her friends and it seems to be what’s popular this year. In 5th she didn’t really care at all and had a PB Teen. In high school they don’t seem to care as much about the backpack or maybe just my kids haven’t, my 10th grade girl has been using the same black Nike backpack since 8th and wants to continue using it.

My daughter used an LL Bean one all through middle school and will continue with it when she starts high school next year. I don't know if it's "cool", but lots of other kids had the same one (in a variety of colors) so it doesn't stand out in a bad way. My son will get the same style next year when he starts middle school.

Key things for us is a place for a Chromebook and more room then you think they need. Their bags are always stuffed.

My 9th grader wants a light pink northface to match her loveshack fancy lunch box. My 5th grader has no preference and I’m leaning towards buying something that will last through 8th grade.
