I don’t know how he finds time to date after putting in 28 hours straight

Residents have little protected time. I think the suggestion of having a celebratory drink is a good idea. Then you can have a chat about his immediate future plans without having to guess or speculate.

Nah, no time for flakes. If he wants to he will. Find a man that is actually interested in you. This one isn’t.

Make sure he's actually a resident and not someone with a family he's lying to.

Residency is horrible, and it is true you rarely have control over your schedule and are truly powerless in many situations. If he's finishing in a month, I would tell him (if he asks you out a third time) to let you know when his residency finishes, and you'll have a celebratory drink with him. If he's really interested, he will follow up, and in the meantime, you can avoid more cancelled dates.

I would not, because this is how it is when you date and marry a doctor. It's not something I want to do.

I think you should pass on this guy. Don’t consider dating him until he is settled in the next phase of his life. With any luck that could be soon but not now.

You should have said that in the OP. Residents don’t have as much control of their schedules as attendings and are also the ones who end up with the grunt work. If you do end up dating then you’ll have more of this in your future.

His residency ends in less than month so no I won’t.

Well yeah you will. It doesn’t automatically end with residency. He’ll have fellowship or be a new staff. It’s never ending.
I’d maybe give him one more chance as he doesn’t have much control over his work schedule but why isn’t he scheduling on a day off?

How much do you like him after your first casual hang outs? My instinct would be to give him another chance if he wants one. I know doctors don’t have much flexibility with schedules and maybe he really did get stuck twice. Hard to know if he is stringing you along or flaky or just has bad luck, maybe run it by your mutual friend to get a feel on it.

I think it’s up to him to make more of an effort. Don’t wait for this guy. If he pulls it together and shows his interest in a clear way you can give him a chance. He’s kind of blown it in my book though.

Most likely he found a female resident to keep him busy.

DH is a surgeon. It really depends on what type of specialty but two cancellations seems really suspicious. I can see being late. I mean I doubt he made plans with you on a call day.

If he really likes you and is finishing residency in a month, he will have more time or possibly less time if he is doing fellowship. My gut instinct is that he is not that into you. DH has always been very reliable and when he is on call or has a busy day, he knows in advance and would not make plans on those days.

Guys can always make plans on the weekends.
