Exactly, not too difficult.

The stats for VT are almost worthless if you want to go into the engineering school since acceptance rate for that is so low vs that for any other major.

Any truth to it being easier for girls to get in?

We have a kid there, they admit by major. My kid is in the humanities and yeah -- it was still very competitive! As in taking a fraction of those who apply. Our kid knew from middle school what they wanted to major in, and did it. So it showed in the HS classes they took and in their application that this is me, this is who I am, what I want to do and everything about me reflects my interest in it. Kid wants to get a Ph.D. in it. I do think people in NOVA underestimate how tough VT is and they treat it as a safety school when it is not a safety school at all.

VT does not yield protect. Every year, surprised parents claim that it does when their kids don't get in. They are very upfront about the fact that they do not do this and say so right on their website.

Yeah but I have heard that they weigh demonstrated interest really strongly.

Supplemental questions also very important. However, I feel like most that really wanted to got in (many came off the waitlist). There were a couple of outliers who did not get in that I thought should, but they were engineering or other top science fields, but for the most part, was a good year.

How on earth would you know anyone's stats/activities/TO or not unless they are your own kid?

Because my DC has a huge group of friends that got in and they are very close and share this info with each other.
