At this point just exploring options since we never seem to get it together in time to go anywhere over spring break. We're not looking for nightlife and partying, and just want something easy for a few nights, so open to other suggestions as well. Had considered somewhere around the Sarasota/Naples area, but prefer a beach with waves to entertain the tweens.

Consider other areas in South FL. Not South Beach.

Brickell
Coral Gables
Coconut Grove
The Keys

I was thinking about lower key Miami neighborhoods. Will it be a PITA to get to a beach, though? I think we lean beach trip with city rather than city trip with beach, if that makes sense. But if those neighborhoods have rentals with pools, that could be a win.

Try Key Biscayne

We stayed at the 1 Hotel in Miami this year for spring break. It was fine, not a party scene. With middle school kids, I might recommend Fort Lauderdale over Miami though. There's a Four Seasons and also a Conrad, both of which are nice and a simple walk across the street to the beach.

Good luck explaining to your kids why those men in tighty-whiteys and construction helmets are grinding on each other on the sidewalk.

Seriously. It actually wasn't hard to explain to our kids. "They're just being silly and having fun!"

OP here, yes some of these are out of our price range for this trip, but even so it helps with general location information.

I’d reserve One Hotel & Setai for adults only.

Our family of 4 did spring break Miami Beach end of March last yr and loved. We have 2 teens and travel a lot so we stayed in 2 rooms in different buildings. A lot of people wouldn't do this I realize but we know our kids. The rates were really good with pool on roof and cabanas. News cafe is lobby of one of the buildings. Both buildings next door. It's The Tony hotel on Collins - excellent location. Fly in and out of MIA no car needed just R and R on beach - not sure what prob people have with this itinerary lol

Also Miami started implementing a strict spring break policy where they have police like on every block. Super safer and it really didn't impact us.
